Benny

Date of birth:
March 2nd, 2008
Place of origin: Chicago, IL - USA
Family: Melted in a rainstorm

Benny was initially rescued by singer-songwriter Kristi Kates while recording her new album in the north Chicago area; she found Benny while on a walk along the lakeshore. He was initially a very sad snowman, as global warming in the form of unseasonable winter rain took his family away, but has cheered up since being taken in by Kristi and fed a lot of squash soup (his favorite.) As Kristi will be travelling soon, she can no longer take care of Benny, but wants to make sure he will find a good and welcoming home.

Hobbies: Songwriting. After spending weeks with Kristi, Benny has developed a true passion for music. "Songs with purpose" as he calls it. Casting himself in the mold of such icons as Peete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, he'd like to be on the road singing. But with climate conditions warming up Benny knows this isn't wise. Lately he's been organizing open mic nights and singalongs here at the Orphanage.

Like and dislikes: Benny likes squash! (Especially in soups) Although he has to be careful and let it cool down first. (Gazpacho is another favorite). Benny and Leon bonded immediately over their shared gastronomic interests. Benny dislikes lazyness and gets pouty when things don't work out. However, he's got a great sense of humor which always seems to get him through even the toughest situations.

Special skills: The fact that he barely knows two chords hasn't stopped him from carrying a guitar with him at all times. On just his second night in the orphanage, Benny stood up - interrupting movie nite - and sang a song he called, "The glaciers they are a' fallin." We were duely impressed.

Dreams and goals: To be remembered for changing the world through music and song. "If you wanna end global warming you gotta sing loud, man!" as Benny often says.

Orphanage notes:
Benny has grown very comfortable at the orphanage and fits in well with the other snowmen. Motivated by a strong social consience, he is always up at the crack of dawn with guitar in hand, eager to sing for anyone who will listen. We are confident Benny would be a great friend and inspiration to children of all ages.
