Save a Snowman is planning a fundraiser that honors the ultimate mix of adventure, nature and being fully alive. Extreme winter athletes don't just depend on snow to race and peform, they depend on the health and sustainability of our world.
Our goal is to raise money to support our "Green Schools" projects and spread environmental awareness.
THE PROJECT
Save a Snowman is organizing a 100% green snowboarding competition to be held in a sustainable winter resort, newly redesigned with the help of young athletes and our team. The event will feature amateur competitions as well as appearances by pro snowboarders. All professional participants will be using the latest environmental board materials and gear.
This "leave no trace event" will promote the benefits and performance of green technologies. The winners of the amateur competition will receive a Save a Snowman bamboo snowboard.
In addition to the snowboarding event, the resort and event perimeter will showcase artwork under the theme "Hear my voice," expressing local youth's desire to create a clean and lasting world.
We feel this project will provide emerging athletes and anyone with a passion for the outdoors a fun opportunity to learn and integrate green technologies.
The "Hear my Voice" artwork will remain part of the resort after the event.
HOW IT WORKS
· GREENING THE RESORT:
Save a Snowman will approach ski resorts through US and Canada and select a resort to be redesigned as a fully sustainable green building, using solar energy, implementing recycling and composting on site, minimizing the amount of waste generated and using biodegradable supplies. The equipment rental will provide the latest sustainably made equipment and gear.
· GATHERING THE CONTESTANTS:
With the help of Fuel TV, Save a Snowman will invite 100 young athletes of all ages and all levels to participate in a weekend long green snowboarding competition to raise money to help green schools in North America.
· GATHERING THE SPONSOR:
Save a Snowman intends to partner with Arbor and Venture to help support the event, presenting a unique marketing opportunity to these companies offering emerging green technologies. We believe the participation of name athletes will raise interest in environmentally conscious gear.
· FUNDING THE EVENT:
Along with collecting donations through the website, we will also solicit corporate sponsorship and matching employer donation programs.
ACHIEVING THE GOAL
A fundraising meter will track the amount raised for greening schools. At the moment, donations to Save a Snowman other than for "Green Schools" & "Restoring the Rainforest" projects will also go toward organizing this event.
Establishing a sustainable green resort will create a lasting impression for many years to come.
