My name is ___________ and I am one of the citizens you represent.

I'm writing today to ask you to take necessary action to help build a sustainable world.

At present, Congress has passed no bills that adequately address the current global warming crisis. This is outrageous, and a sad example America is setting for the rest of the world.  

For centuries, we have been a shining symbol of individual freedom and prosperity. As a proud citizen and for my children, I want this tradition too continue. No matter how much time passes, the inspiring and honorable values America was founded on should guide our path.   We simply cannot continue this path while being the world's leading global warming polluter.   And I reject the idea that committing to the changes necessary to keep our air, soil, and water clean will ruin our economy.   Rather, I believe a clean and sustainable future is the only future America has.

I urge you to support legislation in favor of public transport, increased fuel efficiency, and alternative fuel research as well as solar and wind energy alternatives. I also ask for you to support pending legislation pledging to cut our carbon emissions to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.

Our founding fathers probably couldn't have envisioned the complexity of today's world and all it's problems.   But if we are to remain a shining example, if we are to be the country our founding fathers hoped and fought for, we must recognize not only the real benefits of a sustainable economy, but also the moral responsibility we have as the world's wealthiest country to eliminate global warming.
